Maldives resorts: taxes, transfers and the direct booking
TGST rose to 17% and the Green Tax doubled in 2025. How Maldives resorts and guesthouses can show clear totals and sell transfers and meal plans direct.
A Maldives stay is more than a room: the transfer, the meal plan and the excursions can be a large part of what a guest pays. Resorts that sell all of it on their own website control the full value of the booking.
Taxes changed in 2025
- Tourism GST (TGST) rose to 17% from 1 July 2025.
- Green Tax doubled from January 2025: US$12 per person per night at resorts and larger establishments, and US$6 at guesthouses and smaller properties with fewer than 50 rooms.
- Most properties also add a service charge.
The Green Tax is charged per guest, per night. Guests comparing totals across websites will notice any difference — show the full amount before they pay.
Transfers in the same cart
Seaplane and speedboat transfers belong in the booking, not in a later email. Sell them as add-ons, priced per person or per booking.
Meal plans as rate plans
Bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive, each with its own clear price.
Every guest’s currency
Most resorts price in US dollars. Guests from Europe, Russia, India and the Middle East see prices in their own currency.
